Ok, so the basic idea is to see how many classic cars I can spot in one year. But we need to set some rules. Here they are:
1 - A classic car (for this competition) is a car made on the planet Earth that is at least 30 years old, that is, made before 1982.
2 - A photograph must be taken and posted online on a blog dedicated to this competition. You may copy or create your own blog via Wordpress or Blogspot. One post and one photograph per car to make it easier to keep count of how many cars you spotted.
3 - This particular competition is ONLY for cars spotted in Australia. Feel free to start your own local Big Year competition in your country.
4 - The car must have four (4) wheels (sorry Triumph and Reliant fans but to me a car has to have four wheels to be a car).
5 - The particular car spotted must be photographed while parked or moving ON THE ROAD. Cars parked on driveways or yards or displayed on museums, car shows or racing tracks NOT ACCEPTED. If the car is being transported on a trailer or on the back of a truck, it also is NOT ACCEPTED.
6 - It is vitally important to protect the privacy of the car owners. Thieves may
potentially browse these blogs and you must not provide information that may
help to locate a car. It is FORBIDDEN therefore to list or show the number plates of a spotted car unless it carries
personalised/custom plates. Simply use a photo editing program to put a smudge or blank out the part of the photo that shows the number plates.
7 - Please also make sure you DON'T MENTION the exact location of where you spotted the car or the home address. Generic location is a must, for example, town or suburb ONLY.
8 - Photograph of the car in question MUST have been taken by you on the current year of your actual Big Year records. For example, for this year of 2012, I can only post photos of cars I spotted and photographed in 2012.
9 - This is just a simple car lover friendly competition, there are no prizes other than fame and glory! Think you spotted more cars than me? Prove it by posting on your own blog. The more competition, the more fun to be had!
10 - Oh yeah, and have fun!

The idea...
So you know how bird watchers enjoy spotting birds? Ever heard the term "Big Year"? According to Wikipedia, "A Big Year is an informal competition among birders to see who can see or hear the largest
number of species of birds within a single
calendar year and within a specific geographical area."
So what does that have to do with cars? Well I love cars, specially old rare ones. And that got me thinking. Why not take a photo and note of each classic car that I find in the wild (on the road, where they belong)?
And to make it more interesting, I'm going to post each time I see a classic car, with photographic proof. At the end of the year, I'm going to find out just how many I spotted. And I raise a challenge to all other car lovers out there, see if you can beat me!
Have a look at my following post regarding the rules. And have fun!
